Creating a Mind-Body Connection With Strength Training

I’m about to share some priceless information with you, that’s an absolute game changer when it comes to achieving serious body sculpting results from your strength training. It involves the mind-body connection that you experience during your workouts.

I started learning these skills 15 years ago during Sport Psychology classes in University and through reading books such as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Education Of A Bodybuilder and The New Encyclopedia Of Modern Bodybuilding, as well as In Pursuit of Excellence, The Sport Psych Handbook, and Mind & Muscle just to name a few.

Attention Ladies: Strength Training Is Sexy!

Most women fear strength training, which is very unfortunate, because strength training is incredibly sexy! I’d say that the main reason why women avoid strength training is due to the biggest myth and misconceptions that lifting heavier weights will make you big and bulky. This is simply not the case, and as you can see, Jenn is proof that you can sculpt a lean and firm body by incorporating strength training into your workout program. My wife Angie is another prime example. Her arms are lean, tight, and have incredible shape to them.

What most women don’t realize is that strength training makes your muscles more dense, not bigger. It’s training in the rep ranges of 8-12 reps that is ideal for making your muscles bigger. So if you are currently lifting in the 8-12 range and not getting big and bulky, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to strength training. Plus there are many benefits for women to incorporate some heavy lifting into their workouts. Strength training has a great impact on your central nervous system, which for one, it increases your body’s ability to recruit more muscle fibers. It helps build strong bones. It’s empowering because your increased strength carries over into all of your every day tasks such as picking up the kids, carrying groceries, working in the garden, opening a jar of pickles, and just about anything that you can think of. As you age you will maintain your independence if you have improved your strength over the years.

Now lets take a look at some strength training in action! I caught a segment of a workout that Jenn Daoust was performing with BeachWalk Fitness Personal Trainer, Laura Antonini…

Are There Ways Of Doing Cardio By Lifting Weights

Recently, we received a question from Kale, one of your fellow BeachWalk Fitness members and we are certain that the answer to this question will help you too. Here’s Kale’s question…

“My Question is, Are there ways of Doing Cardio by lifting weights, instead of going on a bike, treadmill, elliptical, Stairmaster, Jacobs Ladder, and others in order to get lean and ripped all at once so I’m not waiting an hour or so on one of these machines?

I only ask because I was on the internet and found a PDF Article on How to become lean and strong, and not be fat and strong or lean and weak. I was just curious about the cardio at the gym because after reading this PDF File I thought of working into this style of workout, especially for prep to play Football next Fall for the Windsor AKO Fratmen Football Team. I know I must get back into the gym, but it’s hard when in College full time and on the College Curling team but near the end of April I should be in there every day, until the end of August with this workout.

If you know a workout I can get planned out in this form with no Cardio equipment and all weights for the cardio and if I can have a trainer help me setup a program like this, I believe I would have a better looking body and have a shape to live with for life.”

How Often Should You Work Your Abs?

One of your fellow BeachWalk Family Fitness members recently asked the question, “How often should I work my abs? I recorded a video, which reveals the answer to this question as well as some very key issues that you must be aware of when it comes to achieving great abs, plus, my Top 6 Abs Exercises!

Here’s some key points about working your abs…

The most important point to clear up is that it doesn’t matter how many abs exercises you do or how often you work them, if they are covered with a layer of fat, you’ll never see them.

The way to remove the fat around your belly is to create a caloric deficit by consuming fewer calories than you burn on a daily basis. It’s as simple as that. There’s no magic bullet.

Within Workout Variety For The Ultimate Body Transformation

How to get rippedThe phrase, “Variety is King!” has been uttered by nearly every fitness trainer around the world, with the premise being that your body adapts to the stresses of a specific training protocol after four to six weeks, where the magnitude of the results that you have been achieving, begins to diminish. This is why you see Angie and I performing a new workout program each month.

There are many ways that you can incorporate variety in your training each month. Here are just a few:

a) Keep the workout the same, but change the exercises.
b) Keep the workout and the exercises the same, but change the reps, rest period, or tempo.
c) Change the entire workout plan.
